Summary
In the first couple of weeks, we as
a group were to create a group plan that laid out everyone’s roles for each
assignment during the semester. Since we originally had six group members, each
assignment had two group leaders. We realized this was beneficial as the
semester went on. However, one member dropped the course but as for the other
five members, we were quick to make changes to the roles for the assignments
and adjust in a timely manner. As a group we have achieved the gaining of knowledge
of the book material, articles provided, other blogs, and also how to work as a
whole when the class is solely online. With a big group project like this, it
can be challenging when you can’t physically meet in person. Right off the bat,
we chose to conduct a conference call. This gave us a feel of how each member
was, we could feel emotion behind everyone’s reasoning, and to make sure we
were all on the same page. The most important aspect of our group is that even
though we had specific roles for each assignment, each person was willing to
help with other sections if needed. The willingness of each group member was
outstanding and not once have we had any complications towards each other. This
group was truly remarkable in every aspect.
Each group member has brought in
his or her own strengths and uniqueness the entire semester. We have been able
to combine forces to create something that we see would be valuable for
universities and students. It’s funny to think about that we each bring in
learning and knowledge from our own experiences to create a program that
focuses on experiential learning. Even though there are guidelines and criteria
laid out for us already, we as a group set goals for ourselves throughout each
assignment. When you set goals and objectives for yourself and you reach them,
it’s easier to move on to the next assignment because you feel accomplished. In
some cases communication was a challenge but from our standpoint, overall we
did phenomenal with how well we communicated and reflected off one another. You
hear it many times in your life and this is another case to hear,
“Communication is key.” Overall, this group has done outstanding and is very
pleased with the members we were able to work with.
Group Reflection
The group’s consensus is that one of the most valuable things we did was setting forth each person’s role for each part of the project in the beginning and relying on this to complete assignments. We also agreed that one of our major strengths was the variety of skills and experience within our group. This, of course, meant that other members of the group had strengths in areas that others had challenges. We also agreed that staying in constant communication with one another was essential, but also acknowledged that this can be challenging in an on-line course. Several members of the group stressed the importance of constantly referring to the syllabus and paying attention to details. We also worked to help each other succeed individually. Group members would send reminders about projects due in the syllabus and provide individual feedback to one another. Another aspect of this group is each of us are working professionals. The ability to bring what we are learning to our workplace helped strengthen the learning process.

Group 1,
ReplyDeleteGreat work on your final demonstration! The brochures are professional and clearly describe the goals and objectives of S.O.W. The pictures and the quotes are good additions. I really like the "Got interns?" picture. As a former career services professional, it's amazing to me how few students take advantage of the BSU Career Center. I really like that you have partnered with them for this program. That will greatly benefit the students. I'm glad that your group worked together effectively as a team. I agree that communication is key!
Thanks,
Jen
Great work group 1! I really enjoyed your brochures and felt that they would be useful. I really like your project and seeing the final demo! Thanks and great job!

I loved the final demonstration of your program. The information that your group researched on experiential learning was clear and concise. I have always felt that experiential learning has a place in adult education. Many educators discount experiential learning when it comes to younger adult students. I am glad to see through your research you emphasized the important of such experience like internships in a student's academic success. Although in most curriculum's internships are not required, I think they should be. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI like the touch of using brochures. It is a good way to catch the attention of not only Dr. Chang and other classmates, but in real life. If your project was implemented tomorrow, the use of brochures would be a tremendous advantage. I like where your project is going and the final demonstration was very good.
ReplyDeleteMike, Spencer, Jan, Kristen and Laura,
ReplyDeleteExcellent brochure you created! It is very neat and pretty! It highly relates to your topic!
Suggestions:
1. You may move the introduction of experiential learning from page 4 to page 1. First introduce what experiential learning is about, and then introduce S.O.W. initiative so that your readers will know the rationale of S.O.W.
2. Move Job Workshop to page 1 (after the introduction of S.O.W.) so that your readers will know that job workshop is part of the S.O.W. initiative that will be organized at the week 8.
3. Put all the testimonials together and maybe move them at page 4.
4. In Summary, please introduce your major achievements in your project (mainly content related information). I like what you wrote about the group collaboration and group dynamics, but move them to group reflection.

---- Excellent tips you shared with us!

You may move your video introduction here under your title so that your readers can easily relate your video to your demonstration and know more details about how you completed your project.

Hi Bo,
ReplyDeleteOne thing that might have been helpful to add is that these are actually two different brochures! One marketing the program to the students and the other one marketing to the possible intern sites! That may explain some of the placement of things. Thanks for the feedback!
The S.O.W. Initiative is an impressive and well thought through program that would be great to see implemented especially at the community college level. I especially like the creativity behind the concept of growing through the experience, the experience being the internship through which the students would do their learning. The on the job work skills students could acquire from your program would be very beneficial. There is a lot of information offered on your brochures. It would be nice to have a smaller flyer that catches the attention of the target audience and would draw them in to then absorb all of the information about your program that you have already provided. This is great work and thank you for sharing.
